Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center Vivarium Unit will hire a full-time veterinarian to work with experimental animals. Eligible applicants should be/have:

  • Graduated from veterinary faculty, department of veterinary medicine
  • Completed military service for male candidates
  • A person who does not have any handicap in terms of health (asthma, allergy, panic attack, etc.) and psychologically (disgusted from experimental animals, etc.) to work with experimental animals such as mice, rats, rabbit, zebrafish and guinea pig
  • Using MS Office programs
  • Preferably at least intermediate level of English
  • High communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Those who may reside/already residing in Izmir

Job description

  • Routine health and welfare controls of experimental animals; identification and elimination of related improprieties
  • To be a member of the Animal Welfare Unit
  • Closely following up the related legislative documents
  • To be the officially responsible veterinarian of iBG-vivarium and to carry out official correspondence with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock
  • Being a permanent member of the Local Ethics Committee (HADYEK)
  • Based on the existing capacity and feasibility of iBG-vivarium, assessing and reporting of user requests such as experimental assistance or animal transfer from/to iBG
  • To oversee the animal identity recording and to report lists to the authorities
  • To take part in the establishment of quality management system in iBG-Vivarium
  • Overseeing the personnel who carry out the experiments in accordance with the quality management of iBG and reporting the improprieties
  • Sample collection for routine microbiological controls, and organizing the test process
  • Planing and organizing the animal transfer from/to iBG in accordance with official procedure
  • To ensure that all procedures requiring direct contact with animals are carried out under sterile conditions
